Weekend at St. Pete's beach

Another beautiful weekend at St. Pete's (Treasure Island, precisely)....
Luckily we made it there early in the morning on Saturday because for most of the rest of the day it stormed. When it finally cleared in the evening we walked out to the beach with Jen, David, Abby and Lindsey the babysitter, took some pictures of an amazing sunset and let the kids play in puddles of water in the sand. Nikolas was so intent on pouring sand from one container to another, splashing water around, and doing whatever else he was doing in the water, that he didn't even notice that his regular outfit and regular diaper were soaked through and that it was getting pretty chilly.

The next day was beautiful and perfect for swimming. Both days I held Nikolas in the water amid waves, and as both our faces got splashed with water he didn't even complain, much less got scared. He kept holding on and enjoying being around mommy and daddy. The rest of the time he contentedly played in the sand.

Swimming pool, etc.

It's a full-blown summer here in Florida and we try to keep cool by the swimming pool as much as we can. I haven't been pushing Nikolas to go into water, instead I just let him play around the swimming pool as he likes, and this is a good thing because he feels comfortable around water. He'll even let me hold him in deeper water where he can't touch the floor. Several times while he played in the kiddy pool he slipped and dipped under the surface--as I pulled him up, he did not look terrified and continued to play as if nothing happened.

At home his attention is about equally split between wheels, balls and books.

Some serious read:

In a few years we'll be going mountain biking together...
